So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

It was in the cold January. I was sitting in a library, where I love to work on my speeches for my weddings, when Colette’s mail reached me: She and her husband Daniel live in North Carolina in America and they have decided to have their wedding ceremony in Heidelberg, a very intimate wedding ceremony with ten guests. With their families they would like to come to Germany and in particular to Heidelberg because Daniel’s grandmother lived exactly here in Heidelberg! What a romantic reason for a destination wedding in Germany!
We have decided to meet each other via Skype and only a few days later I was sitting in front of my Laptop to call Daniel and Colette. Only seconds later they appeared on the screen, smiling and laughing. And only a few moments later their cute dog came along to say Hello. We talked as if there was no ocean between us, no hundreds of miles and many countries but as if they were old friends sitting on my sofa next to me.

The ceremony itself should take place in the castle park in Schwetzingen at the base of the Apoll Temple surrounded by beautiful nature and water fountains. The decoration was to consist of beautiful white and blush coloured flowers – and amidst those flowers there were lilies of the valley and snapdragons, the favourite flowers of Daniel’s grandmother and Colette’s grandmother. Andrea Ambergs from Amberg’s Blumenstation created these wonderful flower arrangements and they looked perfect – uniting modern flower art and the family tradition of the couple. In the months between our first contact and their wedding ceremony I helped them organize everything and of course we talked to each other via Skype. And their love story was so beautiful, so romantic and even funny – we laughed a lot and at the same time I was deeply touched by their story and their thoughts and feelings towards each other.

Finally the day of the wedding ceremony came: It was a beautiful Friday in June, the sun was shining and the atmosphere was so full of this special magical feeling just before the wedding is about to start. When I arrived at the Castle in Schwetzingen, Colette’s and Daniel’s parents, siblings, maid of honour and best man were arriving just at the same time. Although we saw each other for the first time, they embraced me like an old friend. Together we walked to the Apoll Temple and prepared everything for the ceremony. Daniel waited for Colette by my side. When the music started to play – What a Wonderful World – Colette descended the stairs with her beautiful, warm smile – it was a breathtaking moment.

Daniel and Colette decided to stand throughout the ceremony – and I‘ve rarely experienced something that beautiful and intense: They looked into each other’s eyes the whole time, smiling, and sometimes a little tear rolled down. It was so touching, so intense and a ceremony full of real romance, that everybody could feel. Then the moment came when Daniel and Colette exchanged their rings. Colette’s ring had the gems of a ring of Daniel’s grandmother in it – what a beautiful way to always remember her!
